Oh Al Gore haven't you learned yet that all the global warming myths you have been talking about for years now are starting to be debunked? Maybe you have that's why to get some attention back to you, you compare global warming to racism;
“I remember, again going back to my early years in the South, when the Civil Rights revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me,” Gore said. “My generation watched Bull Connor turning the hose on civil rights demonstrators and we went, ‘Whoa! How gross and evil is that?’ My generation asked old people, ‘Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their skin color is different?’ And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.”
The former vice president recalled how society succeeded in marginalizing racists and said climate change skeptics must be defeated in the same manner.
“Secondly, back to this phrase ‘win the conversation,’” he continued. “There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with — you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally — but there came a time when racist comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, ‘Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.’ That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won.”
“We have to win the conversation on climate,” Gore added.
Wow...just wow. This man could have been president. How you can compare racism to global warming is beyond me. One is morally wrong. God said to love one another, pretty cut and dry. The other, not so much. It seems like every day now we hear another report that debunks his crazy "end of the world" scenarios.
Now The Huffington Post isn't a site that most conservatives would go to on a daily basis, but I do. Why? Because I love to see the hypocrisy in the liberal way of thinking and freak out when the President actually does something "Republican-like".
Which brings us to the Patriot Act. Obama signed an extension of it last night. Now two things are funny here; first Obama blasted Bush on Gitmo and things like the Patriot Act and yet now since he has become President, he understands the importance of it. Second, the reaction of the liberals on The Huffington Post site.
Last week I posted a story about the millions of dollars wasted trying to make the L.A. Community Colleges "green". In it, Larry Eisenberg was quoted as saying;
"Ultimately," he said, "I believe we'll get there."
Several dozen spectators burst into applause when board President Georgia Mercer announced that the seven trustees had voted unanimously in closed session to terminate Larry Eisenberg's employment contract, effective at the end of this week.
"It's time to move on in a new direction," Mercer said.
My favorite part was when The Times tried to reach him for comment;
In a brief telephone interview, Eisenberg declined to discuss what led to his firing. "You guys have done your damage," he said.
At least justice was served here. I just wish The Times would pull their head out of their rear ends on this Value-Added stuff.
You know a lot of people talk about how these environmentalists are a little crazy and aren't really practical. Well, this story isn't going to help squash those stereotypes.
Larry Eisenberg had a vision. "Amazing," he called it. "Spectacular."
The Los Angeles Community College District would become a paragon of clean energy. By generating solar, wind and geothermal power, the district would supply all its electricity needs. Not only would the nine colleges sever ties to the grid, saving millions of dollars a year, they would make money by selling surplus power. Thanks to state and federal subsidies, construction of the green energy projects would cost nothing upfront.
Wow...what a great idea. What could possibly go wrong?
He overestimated how much power the colleges could generate. He underestimated the cost. And he poured millions of dollars into designs for projects that proved so impractical or unpopular they were never built.
These and other blunders cost nearly $10 million that could have paid for new classrooms, laboratories and other college facilities, a Times investigation found.
uh-oh
Plans for large-scale wind power collided with the reality that prevailing winds at nearly all the campuses are too weak to generate much electricity. To date, a single wind turbine has been installed, as a demonstration project. It spins too slowly in average winds to power a 60-watt light bulb.
well that's not good either
Eisenberg eventually put together new financing deals to pay for the $44 million in solar projects Chevron was building. The federal tax credit and utility subsidies will cut installation costs by 26% — far from the 90% savings Eisenberg once promised.
Even so, the cost will be steep — $33 million for solar arrays that will provide less than 7% of the district's electricity needs and will produce minimal savings on its power bills.
All told, the college presidents have agreed to build no more than 16 megawatts of solar projects — well short of the 60 megawatts that Eisenberg says would be necessary to meet all the campuses' power needs. So far, the district has built just 6 megawatts.
ouch. This falls under the no duh I guess. But here is the worst part. Instead of admitting he screwed up, here is his response to this;
But Eisenberg said he still believes the college system can achieve energy independence, even if progress toward that goal has been "much slower than I'd hoped for."
"Ultimately," he said, "I believe we'll get there."
I guess it's funny and sad a the same time to think about how much money has been wasted on this project that could have been used elsewhere. Nice job hippies.
Almost a rhetorical question, I know. But in all honesty it's horrible up there right now. It's funny liberals always talk about how government shouldn't take away your rights, but in S.F. it seems to be the norm right now.
First off the Happy Meal Ban. Basically it requires any meal with a toy to be less than 600 calories. Some might say, that's not too bad. But my question is why does the government think they have the right to tell me what to eat. Besides, if the parents want McDonalds, they are just going to buy the kid a regular meal now with no toy. Nice one S.F. So why? Well this guy explains why;
We're part of a movement that is moving forward an agenda of food justice," said Supervisor Eric Mar, who sponsored the measure. "From San Francisco to New York City, the epidemic of childhood obesity in this country is making our kids sick, particularly kids from low income neighborhoods, at an alarming rate. It's a survival issue and a day-to-day issue."
Food Justice? Really? Add that one to social justice I guess.
As if that wasn't bad enough, enter the male circumcision ban. You know that procedure to keep a penis cleaner and cut down on chances of infections and bacteria? The one that most every doctor will say, it's better than not doing it? Well they want to ban that as well. Best part? You can't say you are doing it for religious reasons. So not only is S.F. taking away your right to decide what you want to eat, they are now taking away your freedom of religion. We read;
“Tattooing a child is banned as a felony and circumcision is more harmful than a tattoo,” said Schofield, who believes religious traditions should change. “People can practice whatever religion they want, but your religious practice ends with someone else’s body,” said Schofield. “It’s a man’s body and…his body doesn’t belong to his culture, his government, his religion or even his parents. It’s his decision.”
I got nothing. This is where the country is heading. The taking away of choice and freedom...unless you are non-Christian, then you are fine.
By the way, if you don't live in CA, just watch how messed up this state gets as we are in complete democratic control.
So this is another post that has been in draft mode for awhile, was meant for the 4th of July...obviously.
Team America. The name itself is awesome. This was a movie put together by the creators of South Park and like South Park, they go to extremes to get their point across. The plot itself is pretty basic. Turns out that there exists a secret squad ala the Delta Force that takes out terrorists called Team America. Their leader is killed so they need someone else to come in and take his place as an undercover specialist. So they get an actor. It all turns out predictably in the end like you think it would, but the journey to get their is memorable.
Like my South Park post I will repeat the same warning; *If satire and going to the extreme to prove a point offends you...don't go on! This post might be offensive to some, read on at your own risk*
The South Park guys like to sing. Seriously, their first South Park movie was a musical at the core. This one starts off the same. The first song we hear is Everyone has Aids...seriously. With a line that says "come on everybody we got some quilting to do" you know what you are in for.
Some of the other great songs include Kim Jong Il's I'm So Ronery. They manage to take one of the most dangerous people on the earth and turn him into a nerd, loser, whatever. And you know what...most of the people view him as that now and maybe this song had something to do with it.
Of course, like in any good movie there is a montage scene. The guys knew exactly the song for it...Montage. It has that classic 80's rocker montage song and a catchy course describing the movie exactly.
Fun side note, they ended up using this song again in a South Park episode in which Stan learns to ski...classic.
And finally, the song that everyone knows from this song...the theme song America. It is so catchy and so over the top I can't put it into words. Once you listen to this song all the way through, the next time you hear someone say "America", you will follow it up with two choice words. The song lists all the good and bad things America is known for...listen at your own risk.
The other great thing about this song is how they took on Hollywood actors. Actors are always against war and defending the enemies and they took it to them. First off, the actors, led by Alec Baldwin, are part of the Film Actors Guild...you can put together that acronym.
Classic...seriously, if you have one conservative bone in your body you will love that.
If you didn't laugh at that, here is the shoot out and death of all of the actors...Susan Sarandon's death is great.
Of course, like South Park, there is this "got it" moment at the end. And like South Park they go to the extremes to make it. I played this for a few non South Park people and they were amazed at how clear the point was in the video and how it actually made perfect sense.
***Don't watch if foul language offends you!!!***
That sums it up I guess. Team America is an over the top comedy. There is more surprises for you if and when you watch it. It's memorable...let's just leave it at that.
Offshore drilling is a no-no for liberals and environmentalists. So I guess they were a little mad about it when their hero President Obama announced plans to start offshore drilling this past week.
"Given our energy needs, in order to sustain economic growth and produce jobs and keep our businesses competitive, we're going to need to harness traditional sources of fuel even as we ramp up production of new sources of renewable, homegrown energy," Obama said. "So today we're announcing the expansion of offshore oil and gas exploration--but in ways that balance the need to harness domestic energy resources and the need to protect America's natural resources."
Now I personally don't think it will happen. But I do find it funny how the same people that just cheered him for health care reform are now blasting him.
I am a mathematics teacher at Walnut High School. I graduated from Walnut in 1995 and began teaching here at Walnut in 2004. I am married to my high school sweetheart (who happens to be a teacher in the disctrict as well) and have a beautiful baby girl. In 2008, we had a new addition to our family, a baby boy. I enjoy my job, love my family, and I can't complain because I have a great life. And I thank God as often as I can for it.
